SCP-[...] is an IBM Aptiva 2140 desktop computer, manufactured in 1997, running the Windows NT Workstation 4.0 operating system. The computer's hardware is unremarkable and consistent with models of its time, showing signs of age and wear. SCP-[...]'s anomalous properties manifest through an application shortcut labeled "PersonaConfig.exe" located on the desktop.
When SCP-[...] is powered on and the application is launched, it opens a graphical user interface (GUI) with the following sections:
- Personality Traits: This section allows the user to adjust various personality traits, including extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience. Each trait has a slider with a range of values from 0 to 100, with accompanying descriptions and examples of how the selected traits may influence behavior. The interface provides a "reset" option, which restores the user's personality traits to their default state.
- Tastes and Preferences: Users can modify their preferences in this section, including favorite foods, genres of music and literature, hobbies, and leisure activities. The interface provides a search bar to explore and select specific items or categories, with the option to add custom preferences.
- Social Circle: This section displays a list of individuals known to the user, categorized as 'Friends', 'Acquaintances', 'Strangers' and 'Enemies'. Users can add or remove individuals from these categories, with a search function to locate specific people by name, location, or relationship. When a person is added to a category, SCP-[...]'s anomalous effects will cause the targeted individual to perceive the user as that selected category, altering their memories and behavior accordingly. However, this effect is not instantaneous and may take several hours to manifest.
- Memories: The 'Memories' section provides a timeline-based interface, allowing users to explore and modify surface-level memories. Users can add, remove, or edit memories, with a particular focus on childhood recollections. The interface includes a 'Restore' function, which can recover a significant portion of the user's early childhood memories, often leading to emotional responses. However, this function is not always successful and may result in the creation of false memories.
- Physical Appearance: This section provides a detailed 3D model of the user, allowing for alterations to height, body type, facial features, skin tone, hair style and color, and other physical attributes. The model updates in real-time, providing an accurate representation of the user's chosen appearance. However, the changes made to the user's physical appearance are not always consistent with the laws of physics and may result in unrealistic or impractical changes.
The interface of SCP-[...] was designed for Windows 95, with buttons, scrollbars, and dialog boxes consistent with that era's design language. The application is highly responsive and intuitive, with tooltips and help sections providing guidance to users. Despite extensive searches, no executable file or source code for the application has been found on SCP-[...] or any connected networks.
SCP-[...]'s anomalous effects become apparent upon shutting down the computer. Any changes made to the user's personality, tastes, social circle, memories, or physical appearance will manifest in reality. Individuals affected by the 'Social Circle' modifications will genuinely believe they have a said relationship with the user, with corresponding memories and emotional responses. These effects persist indefinitely and are resistant to amnestic treatment.
